Miami-Dade is our largest market by volume after Broward, and the most competitive by some distance. It is also where the aggregate industry in South Florida physically lives — the pits, the recyclers and the trucking yards are concentrated in and around Medley, which sits at the centre of the county.
Most Miami-Dade deliveries are next-day. Same-day is achievable on staged materials with an early call, but the traffic and the distance make it less reliable than Broward.
Why crushed concrete dominates here
Miami-Dade demolishes and rebuilds more than anywhere else in Florida, and that produces an enormous stream of reclaimed concrete. The processing capacity grew to match it, which means crushed concrete is abundant, consistent and cheap in this county in a way it is not everywhere.
On private work it is the default base on a very large share of jobs. It performs at or near limerock base, it continues gaining strength as residual cement rehydrates, and the price difference is meaningful at any real volume.
The caveat is unchanged: acceptance is job-specific. Some specifications and some inspectors require virgin limerock. Confirm before you build on it — the material is fine, the paperwork is what catches people.
Miami oolite and what it means for you
The limestone under Miami-Dade is Miami oolite, a young, porous formation quite different from the harder Ocala limestone further north. It is quarried extensively in the northwest of the county, and it is the reason base rock is cheap here.
Its porosity also explains the drainage behaviour that catches out contractors from other markets. The rock takes water readily, which is why so much of the county relies on drainage wells and why #57 rock shows up in so many details.
Working in Dade
Two practical realities. First, traffic. A delivery that would take forty minutes at 6 AM takes two hours at 4 PM, and that is a scheduling problem rather than a driving problem. Early deliveries work; late-afternoon deliveries are a gamble.
Second, site density. Much of the county is built out, which means infill sites with no laydown area, deliveries timed against road closures, and general contractors running tight windows. Give us the window and the contact and we will hit it.

Miami-Dade sits on Miami oolite, and that single geological fact explains a surprising amount about how construction works here.
Miami oolite
Oolite is a young, porous limestone formed from small spherical grains cemented together. It is softer and considerably more permeable than the older Ocala limestone found further north, and it is quarried extensively in the northwest of the county — which is why base rock is cheap in Dade and why the aggregate industry clustered around Medley.
Its permeability is the reason so much of the county drains into wells rather than into surface systems, and the reason #57 rock and other open-graded stone appear so consistently in drainage details.
Thin soil, hard rock
Across much of the county the soil cap is shallow and rock is close beneath it. Excavation frequently means breaking rock rather than digging soil, which changes the economics of any job involving depth — pools, foundations, deep utilities. It also means the subgrade you are building on is often genuinely competent, which is one of the few things that makes construction here easier than elsewhere.
